With so many wonderful changes in my life recently I can’t help but ask myself, How did I get here?

Feb 10, 2018 | Unexpected Gifts

The future looks bright and it is not a cliche.

Today I spent the whole day being a judge at the National Public Speaking Championship at St John’s-Ravenscourt School here in Winnipeg.

I judged three categories today and will judge another tomorrow;

Parliamentary Debating
Interpretive Reading
Persuasive Speaking

Young students grades 9-12 from schools across Canada joined in competitions today and showed their skills in public speaking. Their talent and knowledge is enormous. I was soo impressed, almost mesmerized by the skill these young contestants presented.

Tomorrow, I will judge in the Impromptu Speaking category- one very close to my heart. I believe it is one of the best communication skills one can have. It is beneficial both personally and professionally.

The invitation to judge arrived quite unexpectedly just yesterday. Today as I was leaving the St. John’s-Ravenscourt School, I reflected with appreciation “How did I get here?”   Years ago, while still a new immigrant to Canada, now my home for the past 30 years, I hardly knew how to speak even two sentences in English.
With a thick accent I would say: ” I don’t shpeek English” and/or “Where is washroom?” LOL

You never know where life will take you next. Being a judge at this National Level Championship is my most recent Unexpected Gift. Ever since I have loved Life, Life has loved me back. Thank you Life !!!
